Athena is an art scholar and post graduate from Central St Martins, and is best known for her vibrant and eclectic large scale oil paintings produced from her studio in Dalston, East London.
She has exhibited in numerous group shows around London, Portugal and Morocco and is a keen advocate for the emerging art scene in London. Athena is the Founder of a pop up Art Gallery and collective called “Meet The Artists”.
Her early roots are in music photography, with clients including Abbey Road, The Roundhouse and Red Bull Studios.
Athena’s paintings are continual explorations of colour, form and texture, investigating how far the artist can stretch the form whilst still portraying the essence and energy of a person or place. All the work has an underlying interest in empowerment through imagery and written word.
By painting people’s “giant” self, she explores how if we focus on what we want more than what we don’t want, it starts to become our reality. “The concept is all about creating a portrait the sitter can live into; when you focus on something for long enough it becomes who you are”.
